In 2014, there was an orphan dying of liver failure.
Her name became Hope.

Today Hope is alive, adopted, and thriving – and she is the reason Knowing Hope exists. Our mission is simple: to serve orphans and impoverished children with chronic and catastrophic illness, one life at a time.

OUR STORY

“She had months to live. As miracles abounded, she quickly earned the name Hope.”

Cindy Morrison is a pediatric occupational therapist and single mother of five daughters adopted from China, several with serious medical diagnoses including congenital heart defect, transfusion dependent thalassemia, and end stage liver failure. Her connection to China began in 2002 with the adoption of her eldest daughter, and she returned in 2005 for the first volunteer trip to serve orphans. Over the years she watched children thrive when given access to care, and watched others go without it.

During a volunteer trip in 2014 she met a seven-month-old with biliary atresia in an orphanage. As an orphan there was no possibility of a liver transplant. Then, miraculously, there was. Cindy adopted her, got her to Boston Children’s Hospital for the liver transplant surgery she needed, and named her Hope.

Hope’s survival made one thing undeniable: there is always hope for every child, regardless of diagnosis or circumstance. Knowing Hope Inc. was established in 2015 to make that true for as many children as possible.

WHAT WE DO

We believe no child should go without care because of circumstance.

Since 2005, Knowing Hope has developed deep connections with individuals, local organizations, and orphanages across rural Asia. We keep families intact when we can, and we fight for every child who needs us.

     Medical Funding:

Blood transfusions, medications, surgeries, palliative care, and medical supplies for children who would otherwise go without.

     Family Preservation:

Financial assistance so families are not forced to relinquish children due to the cost of medical care.

     Caregiver Education:

Training for orphanage workers and families on the physical and emotional needs of children with special needs.

     Therapeutic Consultation:

Medical and developmental consultations for orphanages and families caring for children with complex diagnoses.
