Our Gracie girl is recuperating at home until February 2nd when she will begin her next round of chemo. We are told that she is so happy to be home. She has been smiling and laughing more. Hospital life is not easy and it takes it’s toll, even on an eleven year old little girl. This reprieve has been just what Gracie has needed to get both physically and emotionally stronger with the next round of chemo looming and the battle for life continuing.
One of the battle scars common for those fighting cancer has been hair loss. Gracie has always had beautiful, thick hair. As a warrior against leukemia, she too will carry this battle scar. Her gorgeous hair has begun to fall out in clumps. It is no longer thick. It is a reminder of the seriousness of the disease against which she fights.
Gracie’s hair loss is also a reminder that she lives. She fights hard to stay alive. She is smiling and laughing at home despite the hair loss because she is wants to live life each day. Cancer may be taking her hair but it is not taking her will to live. Her sweet painting captures it all. Life.
We are still accepting donations to reach our goal of $1000 USD to support Gracie’s chemotherapy treatment. Thanks to the generous support of readers such as yourself we’ve already raised $341!
